The Shinning House

1) Write a brief (one paragraph) character sketch of Mary. Be sure to include information about her age, gender, marital status, profession, ethnicity and also describe what she's like as a person.
The main character Mary is a kind lady who ignores the town's thoughts on Mrs Fullerton, and she continues to create a relationship with this lady despite the mean things people say. Mary is an older women, over the age of 21 with kids and a husband. On a personal level, Mary is a quiet and understanding women, this is shown when she listens to Mrs. Fullerton on her porch step.

2) Why do you think that Munro chose to tell the story using Mary as a reflector character?
As Mary, the author chose to use her as a reflector character because it shows  the relationship she had with Mrs. Fullerton, but on another level it shows how Mrs.Fullerton is as a lady. The way the author interacts with the two characters is really reveiling from the readers perspective.
